P365 - 2016 - Day 182 - nothing but Madlove

P365 - 2016 - Day 182 - nothing but Madlove

Our soccer community came together again this year.  This time to benefit one of our players who has been fighting leukemia this year.  Her bravery and positive attitude in the face of a very difficult year is a lesson to all of us.  The fact that she was able to get out on the fields and play with her teammates in this tournament was the icing on the cake.  Once again, my heart is happy that we were able to play a small part in this event and that our kids were witness to the goodness in this world.  And for the brave little girl that everyone was playing for... we have nothing but Madlove for her.

P365 - 2016 - Day 181 - new bike

P365 - 2016 - Day 181 - new bike

His new bike arrived today!  I brought him over to the bike shop where they got it all sized and situated, went over changing a flat, and sent him on his way to bike back home.  That is the face of one happy guy right there.  He has been swimming several times a week and now with his bike he is ready to start training for his first triathlon.  I am so proud of his determination and that fact that he values his health and wellness.  I can't wait to cheer for him.... and maybe join him. :-)

P365 - 2016 - Day 180 - running shoes

P365 - 2016 - Day 180 - running shoes

The Bear placed second overall in the Stafford Run for Hope and, as a prize, received a gift certificate to a running store.  He was so excited to go and use that gift certificate tonight.  He had his feet evaluated and sized and got to try on several shoes to find the best fit.  He picked out a pair of Brooks that he loved.....I understand his excitement - I love a new pair of running shoes!  He was so excited that he went for a run as soon as we got home.  Soccer is his sport and passion for sure but he has definitely caught the running bug.

P365 - 2016 - Day 179 - just that simple

P365 - 2016 - Day 179 - just that simple

This is summer.  It is just that simple.  Days spent with this view...feet in the sand....kids in the water...and time with friends.  It just doesn't get much better than this.

P365 - 2016 - Day 178 - 2.0 version

P365 - 2016 - Day 178 - 2.0 version

Umm...when did this kid get taller than me too?  She saw this photo and said "Mom I am so much taller than you!"  I said "No way.  You are standing on higher ground."  Turns out I was wrong.  She is taller than me.  I have always said, she is me in 2.0 version.  I guess this is just further proof of that.  My mini me is not my mini anymore... but she will always be my little girl.

P365 - 2016 - Day 177 - Tacos with my favorite

All three kids were out with friends so that gave us the chance to go out for dinner just the two of us. Tacos with my favorite guy.

P365 - 2016 - Day 176 - when you forget to get a photo...

P365 - 2016 - Day 176 - when you forget to get a photo....

Ok, so this photo is not from today.... this is what happens when you forget to get a photo when your niece comes down to take her younger cousin out to lunch and hang out with her aunt and uncle and cousins for the day.  You have to improvise....  I meant to take a photo.  I really did.  I could have told The Princess to get a photo when she and Bits went to lunch.  I could have snapped a photo as Bits and the kids all played games (inside since the weather was too crummy for the beach).  I could have.  But I didn't.  So my next best option was to post this photo of these two beauties from their other cousin's wedding earlier this month.  Hopefully, I will get a photo when she comes back down this summer.

P365 - 2016 - Day 175 - Rummy 500

P365 - 2016 - Day 175 - Rummy 500

I taught the boys how to play Rummy 500 and we got three rounds into an intense game.  But given the fact that I was up at about 4:15 to go for a 5 am, 12 mile run, I had to cut the game short when I gave up my lead.  I needed to get some sleep and get back to it after some sleep....

P365 - 2016 - Day 174 - one happy girl

Finally!  A day at the beach.  Warm sunshine.  Salt air.  Summer is finally here and I even got some beach time with this guy.  I am one happy girl.

P365 - 2016 - Day 173 - last day of 5th grade

P365 - 2016 - Day 173 - last day of 5th grade

The day is here... the last day of 5th grade.  He leaves here a 5th grader and comes home a 6th grader.  One more year of elementary school left.  Sigh......  I am so proud of the great year that he had and look forward to great things to come.

P365 - 2016 - Day 172 - the moments

P365 - 2016 - Day 172 - the moments

It's that time of year again.... school is ending, the kids have completed another year, and summer is around the corner.  That means one thing.  I am getting nostalgic.  I am constantly shocked by how quickly time goes and how big the kids are getting.  It's like I am surprised by this revelation each year.  They grow.  They age.  Time passes.  Tonight is the eve of The Boy's last day of 5th grade and I am slipping into a state of denial about the aforementioned facts (while doing a little happy dance at the fact that I am packing the last lunch of the year...that fact I welcome).  As I sit here and reminisce about the days gone by I was flipping through old pictures to remind me what those little faces once looked like.  When I came to this one, I knew it had to be the photo of the day.  This was one of my favorites......6 years ago!!  The kids were 7 and 5!  How is it possible that this photo was taken 6 years ago?  2010?  I still remember this moment like it happened yesterday.  As I sit here thinking about the fact that The Bear and The Princess already finished 7th grade and The Boy finishes 5th grade tomorrow, I shudder to think how quickly the next 6 years may pass....and 6 years from now, when the kids are 19 and 17 will I be looking back at the photos I am taking now and thinking, once again, that time moves too fast?  People tell you this before you have children and when they are babies... soak it in...it goes by so quickly...  but until you are in it, it is so hard to believe.  Tomorrow ends another school year and begins another summer.  I will be soaking in the sun and the moments.

P365 - 2016 - Day 171 - Happy Father's Day

P365 - 2016 - Day 171 - Happy Father's Day

Where else would My Wonderful Husband spend Father's Day?  At the soccer fields of course.  He had the opportunity to coach The Princess and her team this weekend for a tournament and he had a great time.  He really couldn't think of a better way to spend this day - soccer and his kids.  We all went to the last game of the weekend and cheered for The Princess and her team in the finals.
Happy Father's Day to my best friend and the best father our kids could ask for.  We love you and are thankful for all that you do for us. xoxoxoxo

P365 - 2016 - Day 170 - Stafford Run for Hope 5K

P365 - 2016 - Day 170 - Stafford Run for Hope 5K

The Bear and I ran a 5k today - the Stafford Run for Hope.  We were both setting our sights on a PR and we were not disappointed in our performance.  The Bear finished second overall with a time of 19:27.  He would have been first in his age group as well but in this race if you won an overall, they went to the next person.  That brings me to my first place age group finish with a time of 24:59.  I would have been second in my age group but the woman who finished first placed in the overall.
It is still amazing to me how far my running has come and I love that I can share it with my kids.  Three years ago I finished a 5k in 35:02.  Today I beat that time by more than 10 minutes!!!  I was hoping to beat my 27:17 time from my last 5k... so I think it's safe to say that I did in fact crush it.  I'm proud of both of us and happy that I got to do this with my son.

P365 - 2016 - Day 169 - trying not to blink

P365 - 2016 - Day 169 -  trying not to blink

The last day of 7th grade....I am not sure how this got here so fast, but here it is.  I am so proud of the great year that they both had!  I know they have great things to come!  We currently have two (almost)13 1/2 year old, soon to be 8th graders in the house.  What? How?
It seems like a moment ago that we were waiting for them to arrive.  I blinked and there they were. The baby and toddler years....were they really so long ago?  I blinked and they were gone.  I remember the day they walked into kindergarten like it was yesterday but I blinked and realized that was 8 years ago.  This year went by in a blink as well which has me worried for how quickly the next years will go.... so I keep trying to savor the moments, enjoy watching them grow, and most of all, I keep trying not to blink.

P365 - 2016 - Day 168 - so we did

P365 - 2016 - Day 168 - so we did

Me to My Wonderful Husband:  "Do you think we could finish off the front and side landscaping before summer?

My Wonderful Husband to me: "Ok."

And so we did.  Or, actually, he did.  But I am an awesome supervisor.

P365 - 2016 - Day 167 - I plan to

In preparation for this coming weekend's 5k - Stafford Run for Hope, I treated myself to a new shirt and shorts.  I am going for time for this....  and I plan to "crush it".  Stay tuned.

P365 - 2016 - Day 166 - knees

P365 - 2016 - Day 166 - knees

Years ago, My Wonderful Husband had several knee surgeries - he has two pins in one knee, cadaver parts, and no cartilage.  That being said, he has never let it slow him down and he has the highest pain threshold of anyone that I know.  I know this to be true even more than I did before because today we went to the orthopedic and looked at the xray of his one knee to see that he was completely bone on bone.   The doctor described his knee as being that of a 70 year old.  A knee replacement is in his future....hopefully distant future... His other knee recently started bothering him as well and today he had fluid drained from his "good knee" and cortisone shots in both knees.  He is scheduled to have gel injections in his "70 year old knee" to help with cushioning, the doctor will monitor the "good knee" because he is concerned there is a meniscus tear, and he will do some rehab for both knees.  We asked about soccer, surfing, and running....he isn't willing to give it all up - he needs to be active and enjoys all of those activities.  Plus, remember high pain threshold, competitive nature, and a lifelong athlete.  The doctor, sensing that he was not going to convince him to become a couch potato, said he should do less of the higher impact activities and try more lower impact ones like biking and swimming.  I don't see him surfing less, giving up soccer, or not running at all.  Instead, he is considering adding some cross training with biking and swimming.  :-)

P365 - 2016 - Day 165 - one side

P365 - 2016 - Day 165 - one side

We are still finishing up "house stuff"...sometimes it feels like it will never all get done.  Today we tackled the plantings along the one side of the house.  Just something simple so we can still park the car there.  I can't wait for these to start growing and filling in!!

P365 - 2016 - Day 164 - around this table

P365 - 2016 - Day 164 - around this table

The Princess had a tournament, The Bear had a game, My Wonderful Husband had a day of driving and coaching, and The Boy spent the day with friends.  I had some quiet time and some windy time at the beach....  When everyone was back home the consensus was Chegg chicken wings for dinner.  I'm not a fan of chicken wings but I do love getting everyone around this table.

P365 - 2016 - Day 163 - he created this

P365 - 2016 - Day 163 - he created this

So, at the beginning of this week, The Boy came home and told me that he needed to make a volcano for a science report that he is doing.  I am going to be very honest when I say that my first reaction was... "Are you serious?  It's June."  I am struggling with the fact that the kids all need to eat three meals....every.day.  It's taking everything in my power to muster the umpf required to pack lunches and this kid wants to make a volcano?  I was having visions of paper mache - which I haven't worked with since I was about 12.  I was completely unsure where to begin and a quick internet search only raised my anxiety levels.  I mean really... it's June.  I was about to argue this point with my 11 year old when he said, "Mom, it's not a big deal.  I can make it without any help."  Okedoke.  I like the sound of that.  I found him a box, I had some modeling clay, and his teacher gave him a sturdy plastic cup and he created this.  All.on.his.own.  Mount Matty.  Happy June!

P365 - 2016 - Day 162- find the time

P365 - 2016 - Day 162 - find the time

I was working all week which meant between work and practices, I didn't see a whole lot of My Wonderful Husband.  So it was a special treat to be able to get away for a bit during a break and grab a coffee with my love.  You have to find the time sometimes.

P365 - 2016 - Day 161 - counting down

P365 - 2016 - Day 161 - counting down

I can't believe that another school year is about to end.  The years seem to be moving at break neck speed.  These days, as much as I am looking forward to summer days, I hesitate to count down until the end of the year.  I am all too aware now that as I am counting down days, they are quickly falling behind us.  I have become even more sentimental than usual and keenly aware that my kids are growing up and our time with them is limited.  This school year, two teenagers began living in our home.  Ok, they were always here...but the teenager part is new.  This school year, our youngest passed the decade mark and turned 11.  This school year was full of accomplishments and experiences like any other.  The difference for me was the desire, more than ever, to hold on to each moment.  My babies are growing up and the end of a school year is a bittersweet reminder that time indeed marches on.  Now don't get me wrong, I am thankful for each moment, day, and year.... I appreciate the privilege of being able to witness them grow.  I just wish it would all slow down a bit.  So this year, I am not counting down days....I am content to live in each moment with the hope that the good moments will feel endless.... except for lunches.  I AM counting down lunches.   They already feel endless.

P365 - 2016 - Day 159 - checking

P365 - 2016 - Day 159 - checking

After a night of training, My Wonderful Husband came home to ice his knee.  Unfortunately, it's not even his bad knee that has been acting up....  He has an appointment next week with the orthopedic, but in the meantime The Pooch was checking on his Daddy to make sure he was ok.

P365 - 2016 - Day 158 - a mile I will not soon forget

P365 - 2016 - Day 158 - a mile I will not soon forget

After a day of work, I headed out to the gym for a TRX class.  When I came home, I still had to do my 22 push ups for my 22 day challenge and then I wanted to go for a quick run.  At that moment, The Bear came down and said he wanted to go for a quick run...perfect!  I told him to run a quick speed mile with me and help me to beat my record.  Mind you, I can't keep up with this kid and the 5:10 mile that he ran....he left me in his dust.  But after he finished he ran back and met me to run the last 1/4 mile with me.  He coached and encouraged me to the finish and I beat my best time with a time of 7:59.  That is a mile I will not soon forget.  xo

P365 - 2016 - Day 157 - a beautiful end

P365 - 2016 - Day 157 - a beautiful end

It was a quiet day.  Only The Bear had an early game in the morning and then we all spent the rest of the day relaxing.  My Wonderful Husband made his famous pizza, The Princess and I did a little shopping, we had dinner together as a family, it rained and stopped and rained some more... and then this happened.  And I missed the photo.  Luckily my neighbor didn't miss it and let me borrow it.  This was a beautiful end to a lovely Sunday.

P365 - 2016 - Day 155 - "personal shopper"

P365 - 2016 - Day 155 - "personal shopper"

It's not every day that this family of five gets dressed up.  We are either on the soccer fields, running, surfing, or on the beach.  There are not many occasions that call for heels and ties.  So with a family wedding to attend, I played the part of the "personal shopper" for the whole family and I think I did a pretty good job.  I found three nice shirts and ties for (all) the boys, a nice new jacket for My Wonderful Husband, and two pretty dresses for The Princess and I.  We are ready and I hope to get a family picture while we are in something besides, cleats or bathing suits.

P365 - 2016 - Day 154 - fingers and toes

It had been far too long and I had a Mother's Day gift certificate waiting to be used...... It was time for a mani and a pedi and that is exactly what I did this afternoon after a morning of work and a short run.  My fingers and toes were thankful for the pampering.

P365 - 2016 - Day 153 - bootcamp

This was my view during a morning bootcamp class - Manahawkin Lake.  It was a great class and I left exhausted and happy.
