P365 - 2013 - Day 180 - Another year

P365 - 2013 - Day 180 - Another year

Another year has come and gone...time to meet up with our friends for our annual beach visit.  The kids keep getting older and bigger...which is remarkable because we just stay the same... ;-)  It never feels like enough time to fit in the year's worth of catching up, but it is always so nice to try. Here's to another year!! xo

P365 - 2013 - Day 179 - The early bird gets the waffles:-)

P365 - 2013 - Day 179 - The early bird gets the waffles

This morning (and many mornings) when I got up and went downstairs The Boy was already down there.  I didn't even hear him get up - he was sitting on the couch reading quietly by himself.   While I was putting away dishes that I had left in the drainer the night before, he got himself some waffles and syrup without asking for any help and sat down to his breakfast.  It appears that, around here, the early bird gets the waffles.  ;-)

P365 - 2013 - Day 178 - skimmin'

The Bear, The Boy, and their two friends spent the day skimmin'.  I couldn't ask for a better way for them to spend their summer than with the beach as their playground splashing in the waves with good friends.

P365 - 2013 - Day 177 - love it here

The day started with a visit to the library to get started on summer reading, the afternoon on the beach with friends, and the day ended back at the beach after dinner and playing man hunt until dark.  I love summer and I love it here.

P365 - 2013 - Day 176 - beach friends

Our circle of beach friends span some ages...including the youngest and newest "beach babe" on the block.  She has these two wrapped around her finger...:-) (The Boy too - but he was swimming at the time.)  The Bear and The Princess had fun playing peekaboo and helping her practice standing and walking.  She even showed The Princess that she is "one".  xo

P365 - 2013 - Day 175 - This morning

P365 - 2013 - Day 175 - This morning

This morning, I heard the sound of music and laughing coming from the boys' room.  When I opened the door to see what was going on, Springsteen was blaring from the ipod, the kids were dancing, and playing the wii and they were all in bathing suits at 9:30 in the morning.   Ahhhh summer!

P365 - 2013 - Day 173 - Summer "Dress Code"

P365 - 2013 - Day 173 - Summer "Dress Code"

It is fairly widely known that I disagreed with a certain school district's new dress code policy that in my most humble opinion sucked the individuality out of the students and attempted to create drones in khaki pants and polos.   That being said, tonight we did a little shopping for the kids summer "dress code" - board shorts and bikinis.  That's more like it. ;-)  (Now for me to get back to Bikini Headquarters so I can get my summer uniform as well... ;-))

P365 - 2013 - Day 171 - nothing better

An early morning bike ride to a yoga class, home for a little coffee and a bite to eat, and then a beautiful beach day with My Wonderful Husband and the kids.  The kids had fun with their friends and we got to sit and relax, soak up some rays and chat.  There is pretty much nothing better than this.

P365 - 2013 - Day 170 - run

P365 - 2013 - Day 170 - run

One of the things I love about summer is time spent outside.  Today we went on a family bike ride and then The Bear and I went for a run.  Or I should say, we started off on a run together and then I watched the back of my ten year old's head as he blew past me...yes, I am not too proud to admit it - I am not as fast as a ten year old.   I was equally annoyed at myself and impressed with my kid.  He kept me on my toes and pushed me to run a bit faster than normal.... and I think I have a plan for those last few miles of the LBI 18 mile when I am in need of a push and motivation....;-)

P365 - 2013 - Day 169 - new bikes

P365 - 2013 - Day 169 - new bikes

What to do on a rainy day?  Get new bikes...of course.  ;-)  We were all in need of new bikes, so what better time to head off the island, buy them, and strap them to the car to bring them back then the day when there is pouring rain, lightning, and thunder?  But in the end, we all got new bikes and they were safely put away for the remainder of the storm.  Now to get them out and ride them. :-)

P365 - 2013 - Day 166 - start to finish

A good day from start to finish - I got to run with a friend this morning, we had some fun at the LBI Thank You Fest in the afternoon, and we spent the evening by the bay chatting with friends, watching some fireworks and having some wine.  I feel pretty lucky.

P365 - 2013 - Day 164 - Voila!

P365 - 2013 - Day 164- Voila!

We are making steady progress in the house.  The Bear and The Boy's room was a space challenge at first, but after a few furniture switch-a-roos (which is always fun), we figured out a great set up. Given the space issue, we needed to get creative with desk/Lego space.  I love that My Wonderful Husband is handy and crafty so when I come up with a genus plan, he can execute said plan.  That is team work at it's best - I sketch it, he builds it.  We still need to stain it and add some drawers but voila! - desk and Lego space!

P365 - 2013 - Day 163 - June Flashback 2010

P365 - 2013 - Day 163 - June Flashback 2010

I think of my parents every day.  There are myriad ways that they might pop into my mind.  What would my mom do?  My dad would say that...  I remember when...  Just today, I talked to The Bear about Poppy's excellent bed making skills ;-) and I explained to The Boy that something I have hanging in the house was made by Gigi.  They are always on my mind and in my heart.  With the first Father's Day without Poppy approaching, I can not help but think of him more than I normally do.  So today's June flashback picture is from Father's Day 2010 - opening a present from the kids and chatting all the while.  Happy early Father's Day in Heaven Dad!  We love you and miss you! xo

*We thought of you with love today,
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.

Now all we have is memories.
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake.
With which we’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.

P365 - 2013 - Day 162 - Life is good

P365 - 2013 - Day 162 - Life is good

Today was a good day!  We spent the morning getting some things done and in the afternoon The Boy got to go to a friend's house, The Princess was playing with her friends, The Bear went out with My Wonderful Husband and I got to cook in my clean, put together kitchen!  As if all of that wasn't good enough, I got to end the day with a walk on the beach with a friend while the kids went for ice cream.  Life is good.

P365 - 2013 - Day 161 - That's progress!

P365 - 2013 - Day 161 - That's progress!

Do you see that?  That's the floor!  The kitchen floor!  Last night I couldn't see that floor and I feared that I would never see it again...ahh always with the drama.... After a good night's sleep (well for me - My Wonderful Husband had 7 hours on the road ..) I got up and started "Operation Unpack the Kitchen".  I could not take another second of walking around an obstacle course of boxes and having to move three things to get to any given cabinet.  It took pretty much the whole day, but I can see floor and everything that needed to find a home found one.  :-) That's progress!

P365 - 2013 - Day 160 - Jersey Girl

P365 - 2013 - Day 160 - Jersey Girl

Another very long day of unpacking the remainder of the truck and trying to make some kind of order out of chaos.  The kids were gone at my cousin's house most of the day and it was just me and My Wonderful Husband wading though the mayhem.  By the time the kids got home, My Wonderful Husband had to drive back to the house in PA to pick up the few things that did not fit in the truck.  We were both exhausted.  He had a long back and forth trip ahead of him and I was left home with three excited kids, one confused dog, and oh did I mention all of the boxes?  Whose stuff is this?  I have been letting go of stuff...where did this stuff come from??  Needless to say, I was on my last leg.  When I finally was able to jump in the outside shower I turned my head and saw this bench (a gift from my dad) and smiled.  It may have been a long, rough day, I may be spent with lots left to do....but I am also a Jersey Girl and I am home. ;-)

P365 - 2013 - Day 159 - Moving Day

P365 - 2013 - Day 159 - Moving Day

Moving day was a little more than we planned for - the last little things are the worst - the hardest to pack and they seem to multiply!  It was a stressful long day - but I will say this for the kids and The Pooch - they were so patient and good!!  They helped with the packing and cleaning in PA and when we really needed them out from under foot... they are sat at the table and played games (or napped in The Pooch's case...)  After hours of work at the house in PA, we took the 3 1/2 drive to NJ to start the job of unpacking.  Thankfully my cousin took the kids for the night which was so helpful!!  We were also blessed with help from a neighbor, her daughter, and her mother - who came over unsolicited and just started grabbing boxes!  Then my cousin's son and his friend came and helped get all of the heavy furniture up and in.  It was a long day - it was hot - it was stressful - but were lucky to have some help - from the kids, technology, family, and friends!

P365 - 2013 - Day 158 - This crew

This year, I have been watching The Boy's  buddy from school in the mornings and the afternoons.  We will surely miss his smiling face next year (and The Pooch will miss his socks.. ;-))  This crew left this morning as two forth graders and two second graders and came back two fifth graders and two third graders!  I am not sure where this year went....Happy Last Day of School!!  xoxo

P365 - 2013 - Day 157 - How we roll

P365 - 2013 - Day 157 - How we roll

The official closing will take place on Monday, but today we were able to sign our end of the paperwork for the sale of our house in PA.  We went down to the ReMax office and in a matter of 15 minutes, it was all done.  Crossed the t's and dotted the i's... and completed a big step in making this move a reality.  We got rid of a few more pieces of furniture that won't be coming with us on this next journey, and we started the process of taking apart all of the beds to get ready for the truck tomorrow.  It's all a little crazy.  Maybe more than crazy.  But that is sort of how we roll.  Really always.. from our first apartment when they tried to tell us after we signed the lease that our apartment wouldn't be ready in time... we were 2 weeks from our wedding, moving out of state and I wasn't taking that for an answer - in the end I managed to get them to not only find us an apartment but ended  up with a better one.  Our next move was a last minute change of plans when I got a job in Baltimore and we needed to find a place further south.  From there, our next move came about when we went for a Sunday drive and found a new townhouse development going up -  do we buy a house? Sure, what the heck?!  We stayed put there for awhile - in our Bel Air home - then along came two babies and a new job for My Wonderful Husband.  Move to another state with 6 month old twins..uh, sure...what the heck? I guess so.  After a short time in that house, we decided to sell and move again on a bit of a whim...and landed here where another little one joined us and we have spent the past 9 years.  This all moved so fast it seems - one showing on the house the first week on the market and bam we had a contract!  That was crazy and while this move may seem a little crazy...it's just the last leg on a 16 year journey that took us around in a circle and will be landing us back home.  That's just how we roll.

P365 - 2013 - Day 156 - Redecorating

P365 - 2013 - Day 156 - Redecorating

Here's a little sneak peak into the redecorating project that will be going on in The Princess' room.  She is so excited and, truth be told, so I am I. :-)  Who doesn't like a little zebra print, peace signs, and color?  ;-)  Oh what we can do with this..... I am equally as excited to redecorate the boys' room but somehow I don't think I will get to do animal print and sparkly, furry accessories in there.  Time to pick paint colors and get this redecorating started!

P365 - 2013 - Day 155 - cleaning house

P365 - 2013 - Day 155 - cleaning house

There are three days left.  Three days.  We have moved most things, sold much, donated quite a bit, and today we threw out the last of the big trash.  Have I mentioned how liberating this has been?  I feel like the weight of this trash bin has been lifted off of my shoulders.  The past 10 months have tested me... I have dealt with loss, sorrow, frustration and disappointment.  I have seen the best of people and the worst.  I have learned who some people really are and I have learned what I am really made of.  Even before today, I have been removing all of the "trash" from my life - I have been cleaning house figuratively and literally.  I feel lighter and I am ready for the next step.  These last 10 months have tested me....but I think I passed.
