Our friends' daughter turned 21 today...which is kind of crazy since it seems like yesterday that they were waiting for her to arrive... When she invited us along to join in part of her 21st birthday celebration, we were happy to join and toast to her 21st.  We had a fun night at The Shell celebrating this newly minted legal adult.

P365 - 2017 - Day 204 - great job

P365 - 2017 - Day 204 -great job

While My Wonderful Husband was completing his first Olympic distance triathlon today at the NJ State Triathlon, The Bear and The Princess were playing in the EDP Showcase Tournament.  They each won their final games today and played great!  Even though I was with them, I was able to follow My Wonderful Husband's progress through text messages and I was of course cheering for him from afar as I cheered for our kids.  He ended up finishing in 2:46:18 with a 1 mile swim (31:18), a 25 mile bike (1:14:51 - 20.04 mph), and a 10 k run (53:50 - 8:40 pace)  Great job representing today, Leonards!

P365 - 2017 - Day 201 - another trip around the sun

P365 - 2017 -  Day 201 - another trip around the sun

Every year it'a the same question...what to do for my birthday?  I gave it some thought this year... we almost decided to go somewhere.  But in the end, all I wanted was to spend time with my favorites in my favorite place.  So, after getting to sleep in a little, I went for a run then headed to beach with this crew.  Afterwards we went to dinner and ended the night with cheesecake and laughs.  There is nothing that could have made this day any better.  As I sat down at night reflecting on the day and reading birthday messages, I smiled at the 365 days of memories of another trip around the sun that I was lucky enough to complete.  Happy birthday to me and here's to an amazing 44th year.

P365 - 2017 - Day 197 - revolving door

P365 - 2017 - Day 197 - revolving door

It had been way to long since got together with our friends and when we were trying to find a day this summer we had a hard time finding one where work or soccer or other commitments didn't get in the way.  I told them to come to the beach today but there might be a revolving door of Leonard's as they came and went from a soccer tournament and work but I would be here and everyone would be here at some point.  I'm so glad they were game for that because it was a gorgeous beach day and we love spending time with them!!

P365 - 2017 - Day 194 - soak in the time...as much as the sun

P365 - 2017 - Day 194 - soak in the time...as much as the sun

So this growing up thing is kind of crazy... one second my kids were babies and then poof, I turn around and I standing eye to (almost) eye or I am actually looking up to meet their eye....  I feel like this summer we are traveling new roads and testing new waters as two of our children get ready to begin high school and one, middle school.  They are growing up and while there are days where that makes me kind of sad, it is also such a honor to watch them grow into these cool, smart, funny people who have so much to offer this world.  The fact that, in the midst of all of this growing up, this girl wants to spend time at the beach with her mama makes me very happy.  We aren't digging in the sand and building castles anymore, instead our chairs are side by side and we talk and laugh and I soak in the time with her as much as the sun.  These are days I will never forget.

P365 - 2017 - Day 193 - summer days

P365 - 2017 - Day 193 - summer days

I haven't had one of these since I was a little girl.  Then, every summer I would get a sailor knot bracelet to start the summer and never take it off until summer ended.  When I slipped this on my wrist, a flood of childhood memories came rushing back to me - days in the pool and at the beach, playing outside, and collecting lightning bugs.  Those summer days seemed to last forever...maybe there was some magic in those sailor knots....I'm willing to give that magic a shot now.  Here's to an endless summer full of magic and play....

P365 - 2017 - Day 192 - West Side Story

P365 - 2017 - Day 192 - West Side Story

My self proclaimed "renaissance man"...he surfs, swims, bikes, runs, plays soccer... and yes, he grew up on musicals.  He rarely admits how well he can sing but I know he can and he has a secret soft spot for all of the classics.  So what's this renaissance man to do when while channel surfing he comes across West Side Story just starting?  Sit down and watch it of course!  When The Bear came down and asked what he was watching, he sat down too.  I made it through some of it but with an early morning wake up the next day for a run, I headed to bed.  These two watched the whole thing together.

P365 - 2017 - Day 191 - Medal Monday - third place in age group!

P365 - 2017 - Day 191 - Medal Monday - third place in age group!

It's Medal Monday and as an added bonus, My Wonderful Husband found out that he placed in the triathlon on Saturday.  He scooted out right after getting his times because he needed to get to The Princess' tournament and didn't realize he placed third in his age group.  It was a nice Monday surprise to find that out.

P365 - 2017 - Day 190 - Hello Summer

P365 - 2017 - Day 190 - Hello Summer

I went to The Princess' tournament yesterday, so today I stayed home to get the boys where they were going.  Once I did that, I realized that it was just me at home for the day....a phenomenon I am just starting to get used to honestly.  So I packed my beach bag, grabbed my chair and met my cousins in Beach Haven for the day.  It was the longest I was able to sit on the beach so far this summer and it was a beautiful beach day.  I may have forgotten to get a picture on the beach but when I got home, I noticed how pretty everything had bloomed out front, took a deep breath, and said...Hello Summer.

P365 - 2017 - Day 189 - This guy

This guy completed his second triathlon of the season in Vincentown, NJ.  He finished the 1/4 mile swim, 15 mile bike, and 5k run in 1:17:21.  I am so proud of him!!  I was sad that I couldn't be there to cheer him on but we met up afterward at The Princess' soccer tournament.

P365 - 2017 - Day 188 - second triathlon of the season

My Wonderful Husband has his second triathlon of the season tomorrow.  Tonight we took a ride together out to Cherry Hill to pick up his race packet.  I won't be able to make it to this one because I need to get The Princess to her soccer tournament but I will of course be cheering the loudest for him from here.

P365 - 2017 - Day 187 - good day to hit the library

P365 - 2017 - Day 187 - good day to hit the library

I started my day at zero dark hundred doing speed intervals at the track.  But when the day turned out to be cloudy and even a little drizzly, The Boy and I decided it was a good day to hit the library for summer reading books.  The Bear and The Princess were given their summer reading books for Honors English, but for middle school The Boy still gets to choose from a list of authors.  He chose three books he was really happy with and I checked out the newest Libba Bray book.  Now to snuggle up and read....

P365 - 2017 - Day 186 - a nap

P365 - 2017 - Day 186 - a nap

The Princess and The Bear were at soccer practice and The Boy was at the movies with friends.  That left me home alone with The Pooch and he took advantage of me just sitting and relaxing.  While I binge watched some Kimmy Schmidt, The Pooch snuggled up for a nap.

P365 - 2017 - Day 184 - summertime nostalgia

Here I go again with the summertime nostalgia.... Can this really have been 8 years ago?  They were 6 and 4 years old...they wore matching bathing suits...they were so excited for the 4th of July....they were so stinkin' cute.

P365 - 2017 - Day 183 - Another year

P365 - 2017 - Day 183 - Another year

Another year has passed and our friends are back on the island for their yearly vacation.  It was a fun night of catch up, dinner, and of course some ice cream.  Somehow the five kids between us keep getting older....while we stay exactly the same.  It's a strange phenomenon.  This summer marked  three graduations among them - our youngest from 6th grade, our twins from 8th grade, and our friends' youngest from high school.  There will also be a 21st birthday celebration coming up at the end of this month for our friends' daughter.  I can hardly believe that so many years have passed....normally we say goodbye until next July but we are looking forward to another visit in the coming weeks - we got in on that 21st celebration.  ;-)

P365 - 2017 - Day 182 - can only mean one thing

P365 - 2017 - Day 182 - can only mean one thing

This sight can only mean one thing.... after several days of breezy temperatures and open windows, we are now closed up.   The crowds have descended for the July 4th weekend/week and it is time to close up shop so we can get some sleep.
