P365 - 2016 - Day 82 - clinched the title
P365 - 2016 - Day 82 - clinched the title
I don't say this often, and when I do it is usually with sarcasm, but I am pretty sure I clinched the "Mother of the Year" title. For real. It basically doesn't matter what else I do all year. The Princess texted me on her way home from track to tell me that her gatorade leaked and her bag was soaked. Among other things, this was on the list of things that had made her day one of those "terrible, awful, no good" kind of days. I told her to come home, shower the day off and we would solve the gatorade problem. Easy peasy, lemon squeasy. Thankfully The Boy's soccer practice was cancelled, so I was home and not make my pilgrimage over the bridge 4 times to drop him off and pick him up. I was home and at the ready to handle the mess. And what a mess it was. She was not kidding. Almost an entire berry gatorade had opened and spilled in her lunch bag which in turn soaked through her entire science notebook, part of her math book, and part of her math notebook. Not to mention her lunch bag and pencil case. Lovely. With lightening fast thinking - the kind that aided in my Mother of the Year nod - I pulled everything out, washed the bags, layed what I could in front of the fireplace to dry, and then began to tackle the science notebook. The one that she needed to study for a test. I grabbed the blow dryer and stood there for close to 2 hours blow drying EACH PAGE in the notebook. They are still a lovely shade of blue with a hint of berry scent, but they are dry. I managed to get everything dry and put back together all while keeping my 13 year old calm about the fact that her science notebook was soaked, berry scented, and blue. That, in and of itself, is worthy of an award. Certainly there is a medal or a trophy on the way as we speak. I wouldn't turn down a ceremony. All I know is, I can put my feet up and feed the kids jelly beans for three meals the remainder of this year and still clinch this title.
