P365 - 2016 - Day 91 - in like a lion and out like...
P365 -2016 - Day 91 - in like a lion and out like....
The saying goes...March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. That saying isn't always accurate on this sandbar that we call home. March sometimes comes in like a lion and goes out like that same lion dripping wet and wind blown. But today, while the wind was howling on our way out for a run, when we turned with the wind at our back and the sun in our face, we could almost see Spring coming. Especially when I noticed that our plants and bushes are budding. Hello Spring, come on in and get comfy!

P365 - 2016 - Day 90 - 6 miles and best 5k
P365 - 2016 - Day 90 - 6 miles and best 5k
After two lazy days, I got up early, met my friend, and went for a 6 mile training run. It felt like we were keeping a pretty good pace, but when I got home I realized that I had beat my best 5k time with a 26:13 time. Not too shabby.

P365 - 2016 - Day 89 - my favorite spot with a good book
P365 - 2016 - Day 89 - my favorite spot with a good book
On day two of Spring Break, The Bear had slept at a friend's house and The Boy and The Princess' friends had slept here... so after a pancake breakfast and before my run, I settled in for a bit in my favorite spot with a good book.

P365 - 2016 - Day 88 - Day one
P365 - 2016 - Day 88 - Day one
Day one of Spring Break... The Bear went to a friend's house and The Boy and The Princess had friends here and I parked myself in front of my computer to binge watch The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. That is the best way to spend the first day of Spring Break if you ask me.

P365 - 2016 - Day 86 - Times are changing...but...
P365 - 2016 - Day 86 - Times are changing...but...
Times are changing around here....the changes are evident on a daily basis but even more so, for me, today. It was the day before Easter and we went in two directions.... The Princess had a soccer tournament in PA that had her gone all day. The Boy and The Bear had games. That meant that I was missing one of my helpers to make the knots and we had to wait for The Princess to get home to start coloring the eggs. Times are changing around here for sure but to see three kids still laugh and have fun coloring Easter eggs was just what this mom needed today.

P365 - 2016 - Day 85 - labor of love
P365 - 2016 - Day 85 - labor of love
It's that time again... time to make the pizza gain. I can not believe that My Wonderful Husband and I have been making this so long. This was my mother's recipe - we all waited for it every year. After she passed away, the first Easter none of us could make it. We just went without pizza gain that year in a sort of reverence. The following year, My Wonderful Husband and I took over the task from my dad. This was a two person job and the baton had been passed. The first few years of making this were stressful for me. It meant so much more than the ingredients involved. We were channeling my mother and we needed to do it properly. Over the years, and I can hardly believe how many there have been, the task has become the second nature that it was for my parents. My Wonderful Husband and I work together to make these pies that are truly a labor of love. They are tradition and in the time that we are making them, we are channeling my parents, I am remembering the past and I am hopeful for the future. That's a lot to put on some dough, meat, cheese, and eggs. But these pies are so much more than that to me.

P365 - 2016 -Day 84 - Tonka trucks and cement mixers, oh my
This is our view these days from either side of our house.... Tonka trucks and cement mixers, oh my. One house is going up and one house is coming down. We are surrounded and hoping for all involved that it moves swiftly.

P365 - 2016 - Day 83 - Spring Track
P365 - 2016 - Day 83 - Spring Track
Today was the first scrimmage meet for Spring Track. The Princess ran the mile. The Bear ran the 200, the 400, and the 4x4 relay. They did great at all of their events and they are really looking forward to this season of track.

P365 - 2016 - Day 82 - clinched the title
P365 - 2016 - Day 82 - clinched the title
I don't say this often, and when I do it is usually with sarcasm, but I am pretty sure I clinched the "Mother of the Year" title. For real. It basically doesn't matter what else I do all year. The Princess texted me on her way home from track to tell me that her gatorade leaked and her bag was soaked. Among other things, this was on the list of things that had made her day one of those "terrible, awful, no good" kind of days. I told her to come home, shower the day off and we would solve the gatorade problem. Easy peasy, lemon squeasy. Thankfully The Boy's soccer practice was cancelled, so I was home and not make my pilgrimage over the bridge 4 times to drop him off and pick him up. I was home and at the ready to handle the mess. And what a mess it was. She was not kidding. Almost an entire berry gatorade had opened and spilled in her lunch bag which in turn soaked through her entire science notebook, part of her math book, and part of her math notebook. Not to mention her lunch bag and pencil case. Lovely. With lightening fast thinking - the kind that aided in my Mother of the Year nod - I pulled everything out, washed the bags, layed what I could in front of the fireplace to dry, and then began to tackle the science notebook. The one that she needed to study for a test. I grabbed the blow dryer and stood there for close to 2 hours blow drying EACH PAGE in the notebook. They are still a lovely shade of blue with a hint of berry scent, but they are dry. I managed to get everything dry and put back together all while keeping my 13 year old calm about the fact that her science notebook was soaked, berry scented, and blue. That, in and of itself, is worthy of an award. Certainly there is a medal or a trophy on the way as we speak. I wouldn't turn down a ceremony. All I know is, I can put my feet up and feed the kids jelly beans for three meals the remainder of this year and still clinch this title.

P365 - 2016 - Day 81 - I got this
P365 - 2016 - Day 81 - I got this
Today was a rest day from running - I didn't get called in to sub and had things to get done around the house. Oh yeah and yesterday I ran 20 miles. Yeah, that. My watch officially has a new longest run record and today I am able to stand up, change sheets, clean, etc... I even did a cleanse day. That fact has me pretty impressed with myself today. I felt so good that I counted the days left until the NJ Marathon....after today there are 40 days left. I had a slight panic attack and then I decided to just keep calm. I got this. I think.

P365 - 2016 - Day 80 - make me happy
P365 - 2016 - Day 80 - make me happy
In case I haven't mentioned it, these printables make me happy... I have been changing them every couple of months since December and they never cease to make me smile. Especially this one. Because, come on, seriously... that is funny. Easter is on it's way after all.

P365 - 2016 - Day 79 - another Saturday
P365 - 2016 - Day 79 - another Saturday
It was another Saturday full of soccer - in two directions with lots of back and forth driving. The Boy and his team finished in second place in their indoor league. Although they lost the game in over time, The Boy made a great penalty shot, so he was pretty stoked. The Bear and his team finished in first place in their indoor league with The Bear scoring one goal. The Princess and her team had their first EDP league game and although they were down several players to the flu and lost the game, the girls all played well and left the game smiling.

P365 - 2016 - Day 78 - call that a win
It has been a busy week with Eric gone, soccer games and practices, and work. But yesterday I managed to fit in a run before work and today I managed to get my hair done after work and before more of the same busyness that has filled my evenings all week. I call that a win. Got back just in time to swing past the bus stop and grab The Boy...and take a "thank God for good color" selfie. ;-)

P365 - 2016 - Day 77 - Science Fair
The Boy came up with a great science fair project this year and worked on it on his own. It was the "perfect" project for him and he did a great job.

P365 - 2016 - Day 76 - cover
P365 - 2016 - Day 76 - cover
March is such a bizarre month. It can feel like Spring, remind you that Summer is coming, then snow the next day. It can also rain at a moment's notice like it did tonight. At halftime of The Boy's soccer game, the sky lit up like the 4th of July sending us all to our cars for cover. Unfortunately that meant waiting out the storm...until 8:30...on a school night. With little else to do while we waited, I was able to convince him to let me take a photo.

P365 - 2016 - Day 75 - Bring on the Madness!
It's that time again... March Madness is almost upon us. Before leaving for his conference, My Wonderful Husband printed out the brackets and filled his out. The boys did the same, although The Princess and I never did get around to it.... These three are ready. Bring on the Madness!

P365 - 2016 - Day 74 - What better way
P365 - 2016 - Day 74 - What better way
It was a rainy and miserable Monday, I didn't have to work, I wasn't about to run in the mess, and My Wonderful Husband was home since he will soon leave for a conference. What better way to spend the day while he caught up on work before leaving? Snuggled up with a good book of course!

P365 - 2016 - Day 73 - Another day
P365 - 2016 - Day 73 - Another day
Another day, another soccer tournament. Today was the third game and finals for The Bear and his team. They won the third game an played for and won third place. The Bear scored two goals in the final... and I forgot to get a photo when he got home in his uniform and with My Wonderful Husband on the sidelines as an assistant coach, there were no photos being texted to me. So this photo taken later Sunday night had to do. My handsome guy, catching up on homework after a busy soccer weekend.
P365 - 2016 - Day 72 - Great start to the season
P365 - 2016 - Day 72 - Great start to the season
The Princess and her team, Twin County Storm, won their first outdoor tournament of the Spring season. They tied the first game 0-0 and won the second game 5-0 with The Princess scoring in the second game! Great start to the season.

P365 - 2016 - Day 71 - these two
P365 - 2016 - Day 71 - these two
Tonight was the second 7th grade dance. These two were so excited to get to the school to hang out with their friends and dance the night away. They were so excited that they even suggested I take a photo of them before we left. I was momentarily stunned by the suggestion coming from them instead of my suggestion being met with teenage eye rolling and annoyance. I quickly recovered from my moment of hesitation and grabbed my phone before the wind shifted and they changed their minds about posing together for me. My mama didn't raise a fool..... ;-) All kidding aside, when did they get so big and gown up?

P365 - 2016 - Day 69 - book report
P365 - 2016 - Day 69 - book report
The Boy has been diligently reading and taking notes on this book for his book report. I am so proud of him for working so hard on this book report project. He didn't need any reminders or prompting or help. He managed his time and worked on it a little bit at a time. Yeah for organization! Yeah for being a self starter! Yeah for being intrinsically motivated!

P365 - 2016 - Day 68 - dinner
P365 - 2016 - Day 68 - dinner
The Spring season of sports are not even in full swing yet and we are already all over the place most days and struggling to find time to sit down to dinner together. So today, since The Boy didn't have his Tuesday practice yet, My Wonderful Husband was home for Spring Break and I got my run in during the day we planned a dinner. Not that we need the warmer weather to grill, but it didn't hurt that Spring was in the air as we grilled chicken, steaks, and veggies.

It was a fun Friday night at the LBI School Carnival. Games, hoolahooping, and dancing. The Boy had a blast with his friends and even The Princess and her friend wanted to tag along to see their old teachers and dance a bit. The Bear met us there after practice to say hi to everyone.

P365 - 2016 - Day 62 - Read Across America
P365 - 2016 - Day 62 - Read Across America
There it is... the thrown together, last minute Grinch costume for Read Across America day. I was planning to go and help out today but got called in to sub, so I was still able to be there and see all of the hard work on the teacher's part that went into this fun day for the kids. I can't believe that there will only be one more of these days for my kids...I'm glad that The Boy still knows how to enjoy it like his brother and sister before him. Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
*Miss you Mom/GiGi....it is so hard to believe that it has been 10 years today that you left us. Miss you everyday and love you always! xoxoxo*

P365 - 2016 - Day 61 - Challenge accepted
P365 - 2016 - Day 61 - Challenge accepted
Matty came home today with a "great idea" to dress as the Grinch tomorrow for Read Across America. After I initially told him..."I can not do that today for tomorrow!!", I accepted the challenge.
A) because I am a glutton for punishment it seems,
B) because I have set the costume bar ridiculously high for myself...my bad,
C) because some part of me loves the idea that my kids really and truly think that I can pull these things together with absolutely no notice or supplies...kind of like magic ...it's like I am a "Project Witch" and I'lll take that title. and
D) because I love that kid and the fact that he still wants to dress up for Read Across America. heart emoticon
So, in the end, I have created a make shift, last minute Grinch costume with things I had in the house. Challenge accepted and crushed.
smile emoticon
