P365 - 2015 - Day 55 - on to the second round
P365 - 2015 - Day 55 - on to the second round
The Bear and The Princess' basketball team played the first game of the finals and won! They are on to the second round of the finals on Thursday. The whole team played great and as always it was a lot of fun!
P365 - 2015 - Day 54 - Award show season
P365 - 2015 - Day 54 - Award Show season
So the Academy Awards were on the other day.... I don't watch awards shows. I know, I know... how simply unAmerican of me right? To be perfectly honest, awards shows annoy me. Here is a group of celebrities - many who bemoan the attention that they get from the media - who clearly thrive on the attention of being told how fabulous they are. Fancy dresses that cost somewhere in the ballpark of what normal people's homes cost, jewels that are loaned to them that rival the contents on King Tut's tomb, and a lot of clapping and back patting. Am I a grump? Perhaps. It just bugs me that there aren't regular people awards shows. In particular, and frankly close to my heart, is the concept of a Parent Academy Award for all of those unsung heroes in the trenches of parenthood. I know most of us as parents aren't looking for an award, but sometimes a little recognition, someone noticing how much we do and sacrifice for the good of our kids and the world in general (because we are raising people here, people!) would be nice. I say this every year as the Award Show season rolls around. My husband nods as he listens to my rant each year. What about the moms - and the dads - the ones teaching kids manners.... potty training....how to share...how to be a good friend. The ones who drive their children to practices and sporting events and help them with homework and staying organized. The ones who make rules that aren't always popular but are necessary. The ones who get up with small babies and stay up waiting for teenagers. The ones who sacrifice and do everything for their kids. Where are the awards for the parents? That is my rant every year as I choose to not tune in to the many awards shows and red carpets. Nothing was different this year about my rant and the obligatory nod of agreement from My Wonderful Husband. The Academy Awards came and went yesterday and today my husband reminded me of my award, my red carpet moment, my 15 minutes if you will. I went to the kids' teacher conferences and when I came home and told My Wonderful Husband all of the complimentary things that the teachers said about our children - how well rounded they are, how polite and kind, how organized and how well they are doing academically, he looked at me and said, "There it is. That's our Academy Award." And he is right. Our kids are our award. I don't need a statue on my mantel, we have three awesome kids that we surely can take some credit for creating and teaching. They work hard for their honors and accomplishments, but surely they can share that spotlight just a bit with dear old mom and dad. After all, it is Award show season after all.... :-)
P365 - 2015 - Day 53 - what better way
P365 - 2015 - Day 53 - what better way
What better way to celebrate the fact that My Wonderful Husband managed to finally get home from his conference then with a pot of gravy and a bottle of wine? The fact that the wine was called Flip Flop was merely a bonus... and hopefully a good omen for some warm weather to come soon???

P365 - 2015 - Day 52 - stuck
P365 - 2015 - Day 52 - stuck
Guess who got stuck in Nashville when all departing flights were cancelled? If you guessed My Wonderful Husband, then you are correct. :-(( Flights were grounded due to the weather so he was stuck and not able to get home. Between freezing temperatures, frozen pipes, snow, wind, and now this...Winter is apparently trying to make me mad. In the event that I have not stated this clearly enough - I HATE WINTER. There are no redeemable qualities about this season. This week was just the last straw.
P365 - 2015 - Day 51 - my new scarf
P365 - 2015 - Day 51 - my new scarf
The Princess made me a scarf today! It's a bit hard to see in the picture, but she made it out of a blue t-shirt and it was a perfect match with the sweater I was wearing. She chose blue to go with a couple of my outfits. :-) I love my new scarf!!

P365 - 2015 - Day 50 - I love that
P365 - 2015 - Day 50 - I love that
The Bear finally listened to his mama and started reading the Hunger Games and he.is.hooked. He is on the second book already. He came home from school, dropped his bag, grabbed a snack, and got right back to reading. I love that.

P365 - 2015 - Day 49 - No Chances
P365 - 2015 - Day 49 - No Chances
While I hate the idea of the waste of water.... I am taking NO CHANCES of our pipes freezing again. Especially with My Wonderful Husband away at a conference. I have every faucet in the house dripping tonight. It is driving me slightly mad but I'll sacrifice my sanity for running water as the temperatures dip to stupid levels the next few nights. 95 days until Memorial Day.....
P365 - 2015 - Day 48 - "Dog of the Year"
P365 - 2015 - Day 48 - "Dog of the Year"
It was a snow day - no school, late sleeping, monkey bread, sledding, cooking and of course "Dog of the Year" went outside to investigate. Note the tentative way he approached the stairs....there was white stuff down there for Heaven's sake - no telling what it was or what could happen. Slowly he made his way down the stairs and checked out the fluffy white stuff only to be stopped in his track by a shovel. I feel so safe with this guy around. At least I know that no one or nothing was hiding in the dune grass - he did an exhaustive search of it and it was all clear.
P365 - 2015 - Day 47 - poster
P365 - 2015 - Day 47 - poster
The Boy has been working very hard on this poster for days and took the day off from school to finish it. I think he did a fantastic job and he is pretty proud of his work. It will be entered in a poster contest about Ocean County. He's already a winner in my book. :-)

P365 - 2015 - Day 46 - second generation
P365 - 2015 - Day 46 - second generation
My Wonderful Husband is an outstanding pizza maker. The kids love helping him toss the dough and make the pies. On this cold, windy Sunday, it was The Boy's turn to learn the trade. He is becoming a second generation pizza tosser.

P365 - 2015 - Day 45 - Happy Valentine's Day
Twenty one Valentine's Days later and he still makes me as happy as that very first one. Happy Valentine's Day to the love of my life and our three "little" Valentine's. xoxoxo

P365 - 2015 - Day 44 - warms your insides as well as your soul
P365 - 2015 - Day 44 - warms your insides as well as your soul
Today was what I like to refer to as "stupid cold". The electricity went out over night last night, which turned off the heater under the house, which in turn made for some cold pipes and trickling water in the morning. Thankfully, turning the heater back on quickly solved the problem. But can you say BRRRR? It was freezing out. The bay was frozen again, the wind was whipping, it hurt to be outside, and what did My Wonderful Husband and I do? We went for a run. Yes, we did. Dedicated or dumb? That is debatable. But after a very cold run that required thawing our appendages, our plan for dinner changed a bit. It was a perfect day for the perfect soup. It warms your insides as well as your soul.
P365 - 2015 - Day 43 - Valentines
P365 - 2015 - Day 43 - Valentines
It was a little last minute, but we pulled together Valentines for the classes and the teachers. This may be the last year that The Bear and The Princess do this with Middle School in their near future, but I am so happy that they were still happy to make a little creative Valentine for their friends and teachers.
P365 - 2015 - Day 42 - She just might be my kid...
P365 - 2015 - Day 42 - She just might be my kid...
She just might be my kid... The Princess typed up inspirational quotes that she found, printed them out and made a poster to hang in her room. She also added a little inspiration to her mirror. I love it!
P365 - 2015 - Day 41 - a pretty good reason
P365 - 2015 - Day 41 - a pretty good reason
It may have been a rough day yesterday - yes I get tired of the craziness... but then tonight as I listened to these two excitedly tell me about their day while bopping around the kitchen as I cleaned up dinner and got lunches ready, I smiled to myself. This is why I do what I do. Why My Wonderful Husband does what he does. This is why we might get tired sometimes. Why life gets crazy sometimes. Why I don't always have time for those necessary breakdowns. But I think that's a pretty good reason and their smiles can make it all seem ok.
P365 - 2015 - Day 40 - There are days
P365 - 2015 - Day 40 - There are days
There are days when this is how I feel. This day was one of them. I know how lucky I am. I count my blessings daily. But there are days when all of the "things" in life start to add up....but with all of those things, it's rare that I would have the time to indulge in the nervous breakdown that I could be teetering on the edge of. But sometimes you have to take the time to just sit down and maybe even break down a little. Life is beautiful but honestly sometimes exhausting. Thankfully I have an amazing husband who, while 4 hours a way at work, listened as I allowed myself to have a breakdown. He didn't try to solve it all. He just listened and cared. After some time, I pulled on my big girl pants and reminded myself of just how lucky I am.

P365 - 2015 - Day 39 - all in
P365 - 2015 - Day 39 - all in
The Boy is all in with soccer. All in. Before going to the movies today with his brother and sister and Dad, he went outside to train. He set up the cones and was running drills. Watch out world.
P365 - 2015 - Day 38 - waffles
P365 - 2015 - Day 38 - waffles
After a day of basketball and soccer, we had a "breakfast for dinner" dinner of waffles and eggs. The Princess was manning the waffle iron and did a great job. :-)
P365 - 2015 - Day 37 - The day has come
P365 - 2015 - Day 37 - The day has come
The day has come. It looks like one of our kids will be needing braces. The Princess went for her six month follow up visit and it looks like the time has come, the baby teeth are gone, and now we just need to get the cash ready. Looks like we'll be buying a

P365 - 2015 - Day 36 - in the paper
P365 - 2015 - Day 36 - in the paper
The Bear was in The Sand Paper. The LBI School Student Council (with the Bear as President and The Princess as Secretary) planned a pep rally as a school spirit building activity. The student council along with their amazing teacher mentor planned this event to also reach out to the community by having the students collect canned food for the St Francis food pantry. The kids were excited to play the games and even more excited to help give back to the community. The Bear was also pretty excited to be in the paper. :-)
P365 - 2015 - Day 35 - peaceful
P365 - 2015 - Day 35 - peaceful
Most mornings are hectic... as they are in most houses on school days.... But on this morning, everything was done and while the kids waited for the bus, they all pulled out a book. Ahh if all mornings could be this quiet and peaceful.
P365 - 2015 - Day 34 - sleeping with one eye open
P365 - 2015 - Day 34 - sleeping with one eye open
The Pooch is not on board with my new curtains. He has spent the past couple of days issuing them side ways glances, side stepping their "path", and sleeping with one eye open and certainly not with his back to the dreaded orange intruders. Silly boy.
P365 - 2015 - Day 33 - this rodent
P365 - 2015 - Day 33 - this rodent
I have a long standing feud with this rodent. Once again he saw his shadow and has condemned us to 6 more weeks of winter. This rodent needs to start bringing better news..... or he might need to look out for more than his shadow.

P365 - 2015 - Day 32 - TOUCHDOWN!
P365 - 2015 - Day 32 - TOUCHDOWN!
I know there is a big game on today... and that is big news in this house. There were lots of munchies to be had - thank goodness My Wonderful Husband and I took that 6 mile run today... there was lots of cheering and yelling. There was a halftime show...yada yada yada. But this right here is MY Superbowl. My Wonderful Husband finally hung the curtain rods in our bedroom and I was able to put up my new orange curtains. TOUCHDOWN! I think this looks awesome. ;-)
P365 - 2015 - Day 31 - "Wonder Twin Powers"
P365 - 2015 - Day 31 - "Wonder Twin Powers"
The Bear and The Princess play on the same basketball team and this week they really worked their "Wonder Twin Powers". They were passing and assisting and rocking the defense. It was really cool to watch them working together and diving each other signals on the court. I know the days of them playing together are probably drawing to a close...but it really is fun to watch while it lasts. They really do have twin communication and intuition...when they listen to it, it is something to be seen. :-)
P365 - 2015 - Day 30 - we had a date...
P365 - 2015 - Day 30 - we had a date...
Once My Wonderful Husband got home and we got everyone to bed, we had a date...with the sofa and OnDemand... We are finally watching Boardwalk Empire and I have been in withdrawal since he left - two nights without knowing what happens was just too many. ;-)
P365 - 2015 - Day 29 - Mummy Project
P365 - 2015 - Day 29 - Mummy Project
After a day of school, a late after school student council meeting, and then basketball practice, The Bear and The Princess had to finish their Mummy Project for Social Studies. I remember doing a report on King Tut when I was in 6th grade...it's still a bit surreal to me that I now have two 6th graders myself. Time sure flies.
P365 - 2015 - Day 28 - Wide awake
P365 - 2015 - Day 28 - Wide awake
Due to the "blizzard that wasn't", My Wonderful Husband flipped his weekly schedule for the week. So instead of leaving on Monday and coming back on Wednesday, he would be gone from Wednesday to Friday. So what was I doing on Wednesday at 11:07 pm? Laying awake. Wide awake. I hate when he's gone...... :(
