P365 - 2018 - Day 31 - January

P365 - 2017 - Day 31 - January

It feels more like January 374th.  Regardless, the final day of this looooonnnnngg month is finally here and I finished the month and started the year off with 101.74 (actually 102) running miles logged.  Not too shabby for a month that included a blizzard called a "bombcyclone" and lower temperatures that I care to recount.  Bring on February and more miles and maybe some higher temperatures.

P365 - 2018 - Day 30 - "My Crazy Tuesdays"

P365 - 2018 -  Day 30 - "My Crazy Tuesdays"

In this week's installment of "My Crazy Tuesdays".... I rushed out of work to get my run in before taking the boys to their practices.  When I left school it was lightly snowing.  About a mile into my run however it turned to an icy rain.  No bueno.  I finished my miles, rushed home to shower and make some dinner for the boys before heading out and then received the above nixle warning - icy roads.  Fantastic.  The ride to Wall was not at all fun but we made it and I dropped The Boy off at his practice.  Before taking The Bear to his practice in Manasquan, I had to facetime The Princess to walk her through the directions for her dinner that I didn't get to make before I left.  Her dinner was successful and after dropping The Bear off, I got back to Wall to do some work in the library before meeting back up with The Boy so we could both get some work done in the library before going to get The Bear.  I am exhausted just typing all of that.... See you next week on "My Crazy Tuesdays".

P365 - 2018 - Day 29 - creative muscles

P365 - 2018 - Day 29 - creative muscles

Mondays have been pretty chill lately with a little temporary change in the schedule.  So we all use it to get caught up.  This Monday was all about getting assignments completed.  These two freshman were working on their "blackout poems" and flexing their creative muscles.

P365 - 2018 - Day 28 - never hurt anyone

P365 - 2018 - Day 28 - never hurt anyone

A little rain never hurt anyone... I managed to feel good enough to get my long run in yesterday in the nice weather.  Today I still had 5 miles to do in the rain.  But you know what?  There's no wetter than wet.  So off I went.

P365 - 2018 - Day 27 - concentrate

P365 - 2018 - Day 27 - concentrate

I have found that playing relaxing music while I do my school work is the best thing to help me drown out the noise of the house and concentrate.  Saturdays are becoming my school work day.

P365 - 2018 - Day 25 - better than any medicine

P365 - 2018 - Day 25 - better than any medicine

With a house full of sick people, the best dinner was this chicken soup.  My Wonderful Husband's chicken soup is better than any medicine.

P365 - 2018 - Day 24 - Things got worse

P365 - 2018 - Day 24 - Things got worse

Yeah - Things got worse.  I stayed home today and after getting the kids off to school, I went back to bed.  Unfortunately I was woken up by the phone.  The school nurse from the middle school called and another one bites the dust.... The Boy was sick with, you guessed it, a fever and sore throat.  I got up, picked him up, and took him straight to the doctor.  I asked if we got a frequent flyer discount but no such luck.  Verdict - sinus infection and bronchitis.  Oh but it didn't end there.  My Wonderful Husband was on his way home from work in VA and called to tell me - can you guess?  - yup, he had a fever and sore throat.  He stopped at the doctor on the way home and the nurse in the office welcomed him like an old friend - sinus infection and bronchitis.   So by tonight, we looked like we were operating a pharmacy in our kitchen.   The Bear is the only one left standing.

P365 - 2018 - Day 23 - here's what happened

P365 - 2018 - Day 23 - here's what happened

So here's what happened...yesterday, The Princess stayed home from school sick with a fever and sore throat.  After getting home from work I took her to the doctor - sinus infection and bronchitis.  Then that night, my throat started to hurt.  I work up this morning feeling eh.. but no fever, so I went to work.  It went downhill fast.  By the time my students left and I asked the school nurse to take my temperature, I was over 101.  Went to the doctor on my way home and....sinus infection and bronchitis.  Fever, chills, stuffy, runny, achy, and overall unhappy.  The Pooch was working overtime the past two days as nursemaid and protector.

P365 - 2018 - Day 21 - Fred Lebow Manhattan Half Marathon

P365 - 2018 - Day 221 - Fred Lebow Manhattan Half Marathon

Today was our second credit race for the 9 plus 1 NYC Marathon program.  The first one was cancelled due to snow, but we got the credit.  So this was the first one we travelled in to the city for.  We had a beautiful sunny Sunday to run the Fred Lebow Manhattan Half Marathon in Central Park.  Two races down, 7 to go!

P365 - 2018 - Day 20 - Coach

P365 - 2018 - Day 20 - Coach

The Bear isn't playing basketball this year for school or St. Francis.  He really wanted the season off from doing two sports to spend more time on schoolwork.  Instead, he is assistant coaching a 5th/6th grade basketball team and having the best time!  He makes a great "coach".

P365 - 2018 - Day 19 - This dog is down with yoga

P365 - 2018 - Day 19 - This dog is down with yoga

I am trying to incorporate yoga into my life and stick to it this time.  I have committed myself to at least one day a week to practice.  I know that isn't much, but I am starting my baby steps....  Apparently The Pooch is totally onboard with this new plan.  This dog is down with yoga.  (see what I did there?) Yes, this is the position he was in for my entire practice.

P365 - 2018 - Day 17 - faces

P365 - 2018 - Day 17 - faces

It's their last night as 14 year olds and since I didn't get a photo of their 14 year old faces (my bad), I thought I would share this photo of their 4 day old faces ( I am estimating here).  Tomorrow, these sweet babies turn 15 and this mama is reminiscing about all of the moments that have led us here....

P365 - 2018 - Day 16 - my semester of Tuesdays

P365 - 2018 - Day 16 - my semester of Tuesdays

Today was the start of the Spring semester which meant that My Wonderful Husband was back at classes and my class started officially also.  It also meant that my semester of Tuesdays had begun.  I was ready though and I think I kind of rocked it.  Here's a glimpse into my Tuesday schedule.... wake up at 5:45, get dressed, make sure the kids are up, get everyone off to school, get myself to work, rush out of work the moment I can (no staying on Tuesdays) so that I can get my run in before the schlepping begins (today's run was 6 miles but that number will be going up), get dinner going (that actually needs to happen before my run), take a quick shower, make a shake and pack up to head out for practices, drop The Boy off at the soccer complex in Wall, drop The Bear off at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan, drive back to Wall and head to the library to get my reading done for my class for the week, meet The Boy at the library so he can get his homework done before heading back over to The Atlantic Club to get The Bear and drive home, make lunches for tomorrow, clean up, and fall into bed.  Easy peasy.  Is it Summer yet?

P365 - 2018 - Day 15 - waiting

P365 - 2018 - Day 15 - waiting

Here we are at the beginning of another birthday week.  Fifteen years ago, I was still waiting to become a mom for the first time.  I hadn't gone back to work after the holiday break, so I had spent that time just resting - feet up, devouring as many books as I could before I wouldn't have time to.  My belly was so big, I was really finding it hard to do anything and I was anxiously waiting to meet the two people that had been next to my heart for all of these weeks and months.  They were not due for more than 6 weeks at this point, but I had a feeling they would be making their arrival sooner rather than later.  But on this day, I still had no idea how soon that would be.  This year, fifteen years later, at the beginning of this birthday week, I am still in awe of the tiny little people that came into my life and made me a mom.

P365 - 2018 - Day 14 - meal prep

P365 - 2018 - Day 14 - meal prep

The beginning part of this school year I was not so great about prepping and packing lunches for myself.  More often than not I was throwing a protein bar into my bag and calling it a day.  My goal for the new year is to make a greater effort to pack some healthy meals for lunch which means meal prep has to happen on the weekend when I have the time.  So this weekend, I made these yummy lunches with whole grain pasta, chick peas, peppers, and chicken to last me the week.

P365 - 2018 - Day 13 - ran into this guy

P365 - 2018 - Day 13 - ran into this guy

According to my training plan, I needed to run hills today.  That is always a challenge when you live at the Jersey shore but especially when you don't plan well and get a later start then originally intended.  So, today's hills were brought to you by the beach entrances.  Two miles up and down the entrance dunes with beach running in between and it was a pretty good workout.  On my way back home, I ran into this guy.

P365 - 2018 - Day 12 - great job

P365 - 2018 - Day 12 -great job

It's going to be an adjustment for all of us with My Wonderful Husband back on campus and me working this year.  Sabbatical gave us all a semester to ease in to the change but now that it's back to reality time, I think that The Pooch might take it the hardest.  With all of us gone all day, he had a rough first two days "at the office"...if he could text I am pretty sure all of our phones would be blowing up all day.  He did a great job of holding down the fort the past two days and no doubt had an experience much like this one that he would have liked to text us all about.

P365 - 2018 - Day 11 - first day...since May

P365 - 2018 - Day 11 - first day..since May

It was a great semester of sabbatical - I loved having My Wonderful Husband home!  But, it's back to reality starting today.  The semester starts next week, but today was faculty meetings and back for his first day on campus since May!

P365 - 2018 - Day 10 - sticker shock

P365 - 2018 - Day 10 - sticker shock

The Princess brought this sticker home for me today.  (I've been asking for a car magnet for two years....the kids claim they can't find where they sell the magnets, so this is certainly progress. ;-)) I was excited to finally get this...and then I looked at the class of date and I took a deep breath!  2021 doesn't seem too far away.  Talk about sticker shock. Time, please slow down!

P365 - 2018 - Day 9 - win, win

P365 - 2018 - Day 9 - win, win

We got some icy rain last night, so that meant a delayed opening today.  I could totally get used to this schedule.... the kids were happier getting to wake up two hours later, I was happier having happier teens in the house, and I was even happier to have a few relaxed and quiet moments for a cup of coffee before heading in to work.  Even better, the sun came out and the ice melted so after work I got my 5 mile run in for the day.  That right there is a win, win!

P365 - 2018 - Day 8 - new to me books

P365 - 2018 - Day 8 - new to me books

It's almost that time again...the semester starts in a week and the books are rolling in.  As much as I am not totally looking forward to another semester of juggling a class, work, home, etc.. I am a self proclaimed geek and I do love new books.  Or in this case, new to me books that I am renting...

P365 - 2018 - Day 7 - adios

P365 - 2018 - Day 7 - adios

After years of complaining about the cost of our cable company and my intense hatred towards them, it looks like The Leonards might be jumping into the 21st century.. with this little guy.  We are still in the experimental phase.  We are researching and taking a test run....but perhaps we might be able to say adios to a certain cable company that we have been trying to ditch for years.

P365 - 2018 - Day 6 - St. Francis basketball

P365 - 2018 - Day 6 - St. Francis basketball

The first game was actually cancelled yesterday for the snow day, so instead, today was the first day of St. Francis basketball.  The Boy started his season with a three pointer and his team pulled out a win in overtime.  This year The Bear isn't playing but he has moved on to assistant coaching one of the younger teams.

P365 - 2018 - Day 5 - thank the blizzard

P365 - 2018 - Day 5 - thank the blizzard

After another snow day and a day of shoveling out from under more snow than we expected, everyone was a little punchy at dinner.  I want to thank the blizzard for giving us another night to enjoy a family dinner full of belly laughs and everyone talking over each other.....

P365 - 2018 - Day 4 - #bombcylone

P365 - 2018 - Day 4 - #bombcylone

They were not kidding with their crazy bombcyclone reports.  Blizzard 2018 did not disappoint.  Well only if you hate snow and freezing temperatures.  We spent the day snowed in - so much so that we couldn't even see out our doors and windows.  The snowdrifts were crazy high and the wind was shaking the house.  Before the day was over, we got the call for another snow day tomorrow.  No one was shoveling out of this mess by tomorrow morning.

P365 - 2018 - Day 3 - this happened

P365 - 2018 - Day 3 - this happened

After only two days back to school and work, this happened.  A blizzard was headed our way...a "bombcyclone" whatever made up word that is... (btw, I have decided that I am just going to start creating new words too and I will make them a thing simply by hashtagging them.  But I digress) With the reports looking increasing more bleak or frosty I suppose, all schools actually called off school tonight.  Before we made lunches or got ready for bed.  I was shocked.  I sent this text to the kids and this was the response that I got.  Yeah, even with only two days in, we were all pretty excited for a snow day!

P365 - 2018 - Day 2 - brag tag

P365 - 2018 - Day 2 - brag tag

My 26.2 magnet on my car had faded and I needed a new one.  Since this is turning into the year of blue, I went with this pretty blue floral one.  I can't wait to clean my car and put it on but for now it's living on the refrigerator.  It was also about time that My Wonderful Husband got a brag tag for his car too.  He did complete a 70.3 after all!!

P365 - 2018 - Day 1 - Here we go again

P365 - 2018 - Day 1 - Here we go again

Here we go again.  We are at the start of a another brand new year.  Another chapter in our lives and I am taking every precaution to not forget a moment.  As the new quote on the blog says, we are going fast enough to get there...wherever there is... but I want to be sure to go slow enough to see.  I want to see each moment, soak them all in, and never forget them.  In order to safeguard those memories, I have enlisted the help of the whole Leonard Five.  I have put a memory jar out with paper and a pen and have asked that they all write down things that happen - good or bad, exciting or indifferent.  They gave me a hard time.  They made some jokes.  I am certain that the jar will include some smartass comments.  That's ok.  Just fill it up people.  Fill it up so that on December 31, 2018 we can read them all.... the funny, the happy, the not so happy, the annoyed, the snarky, the silly, the big moments, the small things and remember them all.  Here's to the start of a great year - I can't wait to see all the places we go!
