P365 - 2017 - Day 304 - Halloween 2017
P365 - 2017 - Day 304 - Halloween 2017
Halloween 2017 had us in three directions with a late soccer game finish thrown in as well. But these three were not about to not trick or treat. The Bear designed this "Foot Fairy" costume fully embracing the title after scoring and winning in the Counties that afternoon. The Princess was all hearts and smiles as this Emoji. And Good Grief! The Boy looked great as Charlie Brown! Happy Halloween from our big monsters!

P365 - 2017 - Day 303 -we went big
P365 - 2017 - Day 303 - we went big
In the final photo of this series - before adding a new year of costumes - 2016 was a year of lasts. It was the last year of elementary school for The Boy and the final Halloween parade and the last year of middle school for The Bear and The Princess....so of course, we went big! It was another year that The Princess was able to recycle one of my childhood costumes, made by my mom - Dorothy and her friend went as the Wicked Witch of the West. The Boy and three friends went as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Bear was none other than Buddy the Elf!

P365 - 2017 - Day 302 - personalities
From years of monsters and characters, decades and creations, in 2015 the kids personalities really shined through their costumes.... The Bear was Rinaldo, The Princess was a Social Butterfly, and The Boy was the most suave Big Bad Wolf around.

P365 - 2017 - Day 301 - a little of everything
Halloween, Leonard Style 2014 had a little of everything. The Bear created his own superhero - NicoMan, The Boy channelled his inner Michael Jackson, and The Princess was the most beautiful Medusa around.

P365 - 2017 - Day 300 - back to Jersey
2013 brought us back to Jersey so of course we had to represent a bit....Jersey Devil (Jersey Shore style)! That was also the year that The Princess wore one of my own costumes - handmade by my mom almost 20 years earlier! I added the shoes... The Boy was all peace, love, and Bob Marley.

P365 - 2017 - Day 299 - through the decades
P365 - 2017 - Day 299 - through the decades
This trip down memory lane wouldn't be complete without this trip through the decades. In 2012, amidst a crazy school dress code battle, the kids were representing the 70's, 80's, and 90's and proving that every generation had their looks. I present to you the 80's hair band rocker, the 70's hippie, and the 90's rapper.

These costumes may have taken months...between planning and making, this was definitely a favorite year. In 2011, The Princess started us off by asking if I can make her into her favorite doll.... and so I present to you The Mad Scientist, the cutest real life Lalaloopsie doll, and Kick Buttowski!

P365 - 2017 - Day 293 - another year
Another year in the series.. 2008 - I present to you The Mummy, a cute Witch (with some pretty awesome homemade witchy shoes), and a recycled Skeleton (again without the mask...because... well, he hated that mask)

P365 - 2017 - Day 292 - started small
P365 - 2017 - Day 292 - started small
And so it began...my slow progression into the world of costume making. I started small that year and made only one. The Boy wanted nothing more than to wear this hand me down Buzz Lightyear costume from his cousins. It was way too big but he filled it out with his big personality. The Princess was all about Kim Possible that year and I found this costume along with an awesome Kim Possible varsity jacket on eBay. But the The Bear wanted to be a skeleton and so was born my felt and hot glue abilities. That poor kid was so sick that year but didn't let us know how yucky he felt until after trick or treating.... Can it really be that many years ago.... 2007, The Skeleton, Kim Possible, and Buzz Lightyear.

P365 - 2017 - Day 291 - another photo in the series
P365 - 2017 - Day 291 - another photo in the series
Another photo in the series brings us to Halloween 2006. I had not yet embraced my Halloween costume making abilities but the kids were all about dressing up and excited to all go trick or treating. At 3 and just about 18 months, I present you Spiderman, Sleeping Beauty, and a (recycled) dinosaur - minus the hat because, well, he hated that hat.

P365 - 2017 - Day 290 - this trio...
P365 - 2017 - Day 290 - this trio...
Back to my series....and yes, I did skip a year. I started at the beginning with 2003, but 2004 was a year without costumes believe it or not. The Bear and The Princess were not yet 2, we had moved again, I was pregnant and the kids had been sick leading up to Halloween. Add to that the fact that we had no idea that in PA trick or treating didn't always happen on Halloween but on designated days (so weird) and we had no idea there would be trick or treaters coming to our door the day they came. So, while 2004 was the year without costumes, 2005 was the beginning of this trio on Halloween. So I present to you, Halloween 2005, a purple princess, a dinosaur, and one cute little pumpkin.

P365 - 2017 - Day 287- begin at the beginning
I have to admit, I have been having a hard time keeping up with this blog. So, I have come up with a solution that fits seamlessly into the month of October...typically one of my favorite months.... Today I begin a series....Halloween Through the Years - Leonard style. As I procrastinate making costumes this year because the list of things I need to do is growing out of control, I will take a stroll down memory lane each day to remember all the costumes of years past...... Today I begin at the beginning - a perfect place to start. Halloween 2003. Two babies and a move from Maryland to West Virginia that year. They were representing that year - our adopted home of Baltimore, Maryland that we were sad to leave and a move closer to My Wonderful Husband's favorite team, the Washington Redskins. I present you....our little Ravens football player and our Redskins cheerleader.

P365 - 2017 - Day 280 - 286 - It happened again....another week flew by!
P365 - 2017 - Day 280 - 286 - It happened again... another week flew by!
Maybe this project needs to be changed to P52 - maybe I need to post weekly. It seems that is the best I can do these days. So to recap this week.... The Princess was in Virginia over the weekend for the WAGS tournament with her team, The Bear and The Boy were at the EDP Tournament at Tuckahoe with their teams, The Bear and The Princess were recognized for being on the honor roll all through middle school, The Boy earned Student of the Month in Phys Ed., school pictures came and frames were updated, and My Wonderful Husband left for a conference in New Orleans. I still haven't gotten to go to New Orleans. I wish I was eating bignets with him. Maybe next time.

P365 - 2017 - Day 262 - Day 279 - This is Us (is that title taken?)
P365 - 2017 - Day 262 - Day 279 - This is Us (is that title taken?)
This is the 7th year that I have done Project 365 and while I love doing it, as the pace of our lives has picked up speed, it is difficult to keep up at times. To say that we have a lot going on these days is a bit of an understatement. Two kids in high school, one in middle school, high school soccer, middle school soccer, club soccer, honors classes, lots of homework, a new job, graduate school, training for triathlons, completing a 70.3, training for an running a marathon, lesson planning, more homework, driving kids to and fro...you get the idea right? Oh and My Wonderful Husband is even home this semester on sabbatical - but even with him home and all of the slack he is picking up in between doing his own work, it is a bit crazy around here. But, to quote the title of a show that I love... This is Us. I worry at times that we are moving so fast and doing so much that it makes the days go by that much faster. I worry that we will keep looking back and thinking "what happened?". But I also hope that we will look back and realize that we were living each of those moments and in between all of the crazy are the other moments - the ones I don't always remember to snap a photo of these days because I am just so happy to be in them with the people that I love. The times when we are all home for dinner - which are few and far between but usually involve a lot of loud talking and silly laughing and catching up on the small things that happen in life. The times in the car with one of the kids heading to this practice or that game, when we talk about our day or just sing along to the radio. The times when we can stop for a minute and breath and remember how lucky we are to have each other.
That all being said, this is some of what's been happening since I was able to post last on September 18th....yes it's been awhile, so bear with me.... soccer, school, classes, ice cream, a last triathlon for My Wonderful Husband at Wells Mills Park - Survival at the Mills, my third marathon in my third state - Freedoms Run in West Virginia, late night trips to pick up kids - so late that the bunnies don't even move when I walk to my car, finally decorated for Fall - just in time for Summer weather to return, getting work done in any pocket of time we can find - like on the sidelines of soccer practice or studying before bed, finish line feels, amazing art, school pictures, and all of those unphotographed moments...... September and the beginning of October have been eventful if not a bit exhausting. Somehow, we are all still standing - the kids are working their tails off in school and I am beyond proud of their efforts. I am trying to do my best wearing more hats than I am already used to wearing - some days I think I am rocking it and others..not so much. As I sit here and try to sum up 18 days of life within The Leonard Five, I realize a few things.... First, I am completely procrastinating a school project I need to do for grad school. Second, this is the longest that I have had to sit down in probably 18 days. Third, I am having a hard time finding the words to accurately sum up these 18 days. Forth, when my kids look back at this post someday - and I hope that they do read these posts and enjoy them for years to come - I hope that they know that even within the busy, in spite of the crazy, during the hectic, and every single day....all I ever want is the very best for them and I hope that they will look back on these days and moments and smile. And I promise to do a better job of keeping up with this project 365.
