Shhhhhh...... Can you keep a secret? I'm just saying - there may or may not be a time in the not so distant future when a certain family of five may or may not be catching up with these characters... could be.... but shhhhh:-)

P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 119 - Wizards on and off the soccer field
P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 119 - Wizards on and off the soccer field
It was a cold morning on the soccer fields today, but that didn't stop our two teams from scoring and winning. The Bear got one goal and assisted on a few including one amazing corner kick right to his sister who scored! The Princess got two goals and assisted on a couple as well including one where she flew up the field and made a perfect pass to her teammate who scored. The Boy got eight goals and his team of four players did an amazing job!
Now....I think I have mentioned that the kids have been reading the Harry Potter books - well when we got home from the games, The Bear got back to reading the last book, The Princess got back to reading the third, and The Boy practiced wielding his wand like Harry Potter.... All in all, these kids are wizards on and off the soccer field.... ;-)

P365 (+1) 2012 - Day 117 - KABOOM!
P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 117 - KABOOM!
Tonight, shortly after the kids had come inside, I saw the first flash of lightning and heard the rain start to fall.... and then there was a flash of lightning that was nothing short of apocalyptic followed by an enormous crack of thunder that turned into a blast that had to be some sort of explosion... It was SCARY!!! Luckily our lights stayed on - just the TV went out. The Bear was upstairs getting changed for bed and wasn't even sure what happened. I was upstairs by a back window and glued to the spot when I realized that perhaps I should move away from the window. The Boy and The Princess were downstairs and I think it is safe to say they were terrified! The Boy was especially concerned that his bed is near a window he said... I assured him that his window will be closed and we are safe inside. But I am not going to lie that was one loud, scary KABOOM! (I tried to get a picture of the lightning or even the rain...but this was the best I could do because The Boy was ordering me back inside the house... :-))

P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 114 - I call that revenge...
P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 114 - I call that revenge.....
My Wonderful Husband has an ongoing game with the boys in which they try to scare each other. I try to give the boys a head's up when I can - because I hate being scared myself... haha... But apparently they find this game fun. The Boy has been known to lay in bed and ask his Daddy to sneak in and scare him. haha But lately, The Bear has been trying to scare Daddy good, although his recent attempts have been unsuccessful. So tonight I gave the boys an idea on their way up to brush their teeth - I suggested that they hide in Daddy's closet and scare him when he went upstairs to get changed. When he went upstairs he noticed something was up and tried to locate the boys. But they stayed super quiet in the closet and didn't reveal their location until Daddy walked past the closet and knocked on the door - they responded with a quiet giggle and succeeded in scaring Daddy and The Bear said "I call that revenge..." Well played, well played.

P365 (+1) - 2012 - 113 - Rainy Days and Organizing
P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 113 - Rainy Days and Organizing
It was a rainy, cold day today - the perfect day to tackle the playroom closet and the kids' bedrooms. Every so often, we need to do a big cleaning which means taking everything out of the closet and going through it all before putting back what needs to go back and getting rid of what doesn't need to go back. It's a big job. It takes forever. But when it's done, the reward is a clean, organized toy closet and clean, organized bedrooms. The kids and I all worked very hard for a good part of the day. While there were some complaints, the kids like the finished product too - especially when they "find" missing things that had been buried under piles of toys in the closet or in their rooms. I was happy to have three hard working helpers to get the job done. Rainy days and organizing make me smile. :-)

Soccer Saturdays are back - the spring season is here! Our two teams played great today with awesome teamwork and fantastic skills. P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 111 - ahh ah ah ahhh!
Lately, every night, The Princess heads up to her room to put on her radio and chill - sometimes she will sing or dance. Sometimes she just listens. Tonight I had the benefit of some good tunes playing while I did laundry. All of a sudden I realized that we were both singing along to "Drive By" by Train. "Oh I swear to you, I'll be there for you . This is not a drive by.. ahhh ah ah ahhh!" It was a mother daughter moment for sure. ;-)

P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 110 - "field trip"
While I got to go with The Boy on his field trip to the Capitol Theater, My Wonderful Husband had his own "field trip" of sorts. He went to NYC to Columbia for a talk on the International Criminal Court - which is what he specializes in and writes about. Luckily this picture of him in the audience (middle - head on his hand) was on the facebook page for the organization that organized the talk - so I borrowed the picture. ;-)

P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 109 - A huge fan!
P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 109 - A huge fan!
The Boy loves books by Mo Willems. He is a huge fan of Pigeon and Piggie and Gerald. A few years ago, we stumbled onto the Piggie and Gerald books and he has been hooked on them ever since. They were a huge part of his learning to read and his love of books. Last year he won a writing contest in library ( I think I blogged that too..) It was a Pigeon writing contest and he won a book signed by Mo Willems. Luckily, we have a great librarian at our school who really encourages the love of books and reading in our children. That signed book he won is a prized possession! Even though The Boy has moved on to Magic Tree House and other chapter books, he can't pass up a good Piggie and Gerald book. (neither can I ...) The best part is listening to him read them to us. He is a natural born comedian and these books and the characters suit him very well. So when he reads it is with such feeling and inflection. He does different voices for the two characters and really brings the book to life - not too bad for an almost 7 year old. Today he got We Are in a Book? out of the library and could not wait to read (or should I say perform) the book tonight. This was one that we haven't read before and he had us laughing the whole time. I suggested that he should write a letter to Mo Willems and let him know how much he enjoys his books. I feel like I should write my own letter to Mo Willems - Thank you for writing books that my son loves!!

P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 105 - Our very own Muppets
P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 105 - Our very own Muppets
I remember being a kid and waiting every week for The Muppet Show. Miss Piggy was my favorite and I loved when she called Kermie.... It was a part of my childhood and My Wonderful Husband's childhood so tonight it was like going back in time a bit to watch the new Muppet Movie with our kids and share that special muppetness with them.
The Boy loved when Walter and Gary sing "Am I a man or am I a Muppet" and he most certainly is a muppet. The Bear laughed at all of the silliness and especially loved Animal when he said "Acting...Natural..." The Princess is a second generation fan of Miss Piggy and commented on how many different outfits she changed into.. I said, "She's a fashionista." The Bear said, "She's a diva." Exactly - the original diva. ;-)
This movie made me smile from start to finish. I felt like that same kid who used to wait for The Muppets each week. Except this time, I got to watch with our very own Muppets..... :-)
Mahna Mahna DO DO DO DO DO!
"It's time to play the music. It's time to light the lights. It's time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet Show tonight. It's time to put on makeup. It's time to dress up right. It's time to raise the curtain on the Muppet Show tonight. Why do we always come here. I guess we'll never know. It's like a kind of torture to have to watch the show. And now let's get things started. Why don't you get things started? It't time to get things started on the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational... This is what we call the Muppet show!"

P365 (1) - 2012 - Day 104 - Smile and Chuckle
I slept all day in an effort to finally kick this bronchitis and get better once and for all. By the time the kids came home, I was up and about long enough to check papers and go through their backpacks. I got a good smile and chuckle from two papers in The Boy's folder. He told me that they worked on similes and he wrote his own and they really made me smile. In case you can't read them it says:

"My Poppy's puppy Magie
Magie is as fluffy as a sheep.
Her nips are as soft as a pillow.
Her teeth are as miniature as a little leaf."
He had another paper in his folder that said "write about wishes" and his wishes really made me chuckle! In case you can't read that either, it says:
"I whish for good things to hapen, pepole to be nice to other pepole, some toys, geting peperony."
I think it's awesome that he wishes for good things to happen and for people to be nice before he wishes for some toys. But the best part is that if given the opportunity to make wishes, he wishes to have pepperoni!!!
These two papers were just what the doctor ordered to help me feel better today!

P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 103 - science fair projects
P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 103 - science fair projects
These are the kids' finished science fair projects. The Princess and Neighbor Girl's project asked if video games can be a form of exercise. They had participants complete a dance routine from Just Dance - they checked pulses before and after. Then they had their participants jump rope or do jumping jacks for the same amount of time and compared the heart rates for each. The Bear and The Boy's project asked what juice cleans a penny the best. They put 12 pennies in 12 cups of different juices and checked the progress over time. I am very proud of all the hard work that they all put in to these projects.

P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 102 - love this guy....
For the past few years My Wonderful Husband has gone in to the kindergarten classes at our kids' school for a "career talk". As a professor of political science he talks to the children about teaching, college, his research and what all of that means. Since much of his research deals with human rights, he shares a book with them that is called For Every Child a Better World. This book helps children understand the basic human rights we all have and encourages a discussion about the fact that many children around the world don't have those basic human rights. He talks with the children about the things we are all thankful for and has them brainstorm things that they can do to make the world a better place for everyone. I love hearing the ideas that the children come up, the discussions that they have with My Wonderful Husband and the thank you notes that the children send him are priceless. I love this guy for millions of reasons.....but him taking his time to go in and talk to three classes of kindergarten children definitely ranks up there.....

Tonight was the start of the spring soccer season. My Wonderful Husband is once again coaching The Boy's team and The Bear and The Princess' team so we started the weekly practice juggle...My Wonderful Husband headed off with The Boy for his practice while I finished up some stuff at home and got The Bear and The Princess ready for their practice then set off to drop them and pick up The Boy. When I got home with The Boy he was complaining of his ear hurting so he showered, got in jammies and brought his toys downstairs to play while I got dinner ready. Last month, very unexpectedly, Poppy's dog Molly passed away. She was a great dog and a faithful companion and she will be missed by all of us.
Poppy, being the dog lover that he is, decided that he wanted to have another companion and brought home this little fuzzy furball:-). Today was the first day that we all got to meet her.... introducing ..... MAGGIE:-) She is a yorky poo and quite the bundle of energy. The kids will keep her busy and vice versa, I am sure. Welcome to the family Maggie!

P365 (+1) - 2012 - Day 96 - a quiet place to play
My Wonderful Husband and I had to make the pizza gain and the knots today for Easter. We got a bit of a late start this morning, so we were still working on it when the kids came home from school. Once they unpacked, they all left the kitchen to give us space to finish. After a while, we realized that it was awfully quiet and upon further investigation.....this was where we found two of them....The Bear and The Boy were huddled behind The Bear's bed playing their DS's - I guess they wanted a quiet place to play?

P365 (+1) - 2012- Day 94 - Cheesy grin
It is rare that you see The Bear without a smile on his face. I walked upstairs to see what everyone was up to tonight (and of course brought my camera with me...) and when I walked in to The Bear's room he turned and gave me this big grin - cheesy grin... He is a goofy, happy, silly guy and I hope that he keeps that quality forever.
